One of the main date functions in PHP is date(). It converts the timestamp to a human-readable format. The first parameter you need to pass to this function is the date format, which is arranged similarly to the formats for sprintf().
<?php
// Y means year
date('Y'); // 2018
date()
uses the current time by default. But if necessary, you can pass it a specific timestamp.
<?php
date('M', 123123123); // Nov
There are dozens of different formatting options in the date()
function. They're all listed in detail on the documentation page. It's not at all necessary to memorize them all, but it's useful to understand the general principle of how it should work. All options can be combined with each other in any variation.
<?php
date('l jS \of F Y h:i:s A'); // Thursday 26th of July 2018 10:58:55 AM
Write an implementation of the getCustomDate()
function that returns the date in the format 15/03/1985
based on the timestamp passed.
Call examples:
<?php
getCustomDate(1532435204); // 24/07/2018;
getCustomDate(532435204); // 15/11/1986;
getCustomDate(5324352); // 03/03/1970;
If you've reached a deadlock it's time to ask your question in the «Discussions». How ask a question correctly:
Tests are designed so that they test the solution in different ways and against different data. Often the solution works with one kind of input data but doesn't work with others. Check the «Tests» tab to figure this out, you can find hints at the error output.
It's fine. 🙆 One task in programming can be solved in many different ways. If your code passed all tests, it complies with the task conditions.
In some rare cases, the solution may be adjusted to the tests, but this can be seen immediately.
It's hard to make educational materials that will suit everyone. We do our best but there is always something to improve. If you see a material that is not clear to you, describe the problem in “Discussions”. It will be great if you'll write unclear points in the question form. Usually, we need a few days for corrections.
By the way, you can participate in courses improvement. There is a link below to the lessons course code which you can edit right in your browser.
Your exercise will be checked with these tests:
1<?php
2
3namespace HexletBasics\Dates\DateFunction;
4
5use PHPUnit\Framework\TestCase;
6
7class Test extends TestCase
8{
9 public function test()
10 {
11 require 'index.php';
12
13 assert(getCustomDate(1532435204) === '24/07/2018');
14 assert(getCustomDate(532435204) === '15/11/1986');
15 assert(getCustomDate(5324352) === '03/03/1970');
16 }
17}
